04.03.2025 NSAMA COUNCIL MANAGEMENT DATES KASABA BAY PRIMARY SCHOOL.

Nsama Town Council Secretary, Mr. Raphael Kamanga, led a delegation to Kasaba Bay Primary School in Nsumbu to assess its operations and infrastructure challenges. He was accompanied by the Director of Engineering Eng. Chishimba Musonda, Director of Planning Mr. Steven Mulatu, Ward Councilor Mr. Kombe Brian and the Ward Development Committee (WDC) Chairperson Mr. Joseph Chisha.
During the visit, the school’s headteacher, Mr. Milton Chifunda, provided a detailed overview of the institution. He noted that the school, constructed in 2008, initially had a single 1×3 classroom block before an additional 1×3 block was built. Despite these expansions, the school now faces severe infrastructure constraints due to rapid enrolment growth following the introduction of free education.
Mr. Chifunda revealed that the school has six classes from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Grade 9, with a total enrolment of 1,586 pupils—1,486 in primary and 100 in Grades 8 and 9. The school has only six toilets, making sanitation a major concern.
Recently, the school received 20 double-seater desks and 60 ECE furniture pieces through the Community Development Fund (CDF), but the demand remains overwhelming. “Despite these efforts, the deficit in desks is still high as enrolment continues to rise,” Mr. Chifunda stated.
The visit was a fact-finding mission in response to the school’s plea for additional desks and improved infrastructure. Mr. Kamanga acknowledged the challenges and assured stakeholders that the council, together with the WDC, would explore remedial measures to address the situation.
“As a council, we recognize the urgent need for more desks and better facilities. We will work with relevant stakeholders to find solutions and ensure a better learning environment for the children of Kasaba Bay,” he said.
The visit underscores the local government’s commitment to supporting education in Nsumbu, as they seek sustainable ways to ease the burden on the overcrowded school.
